FAQs
What is a Race Night?
Race nights are effectively a lottery/raffle where 8 horse races are shown on the big screen in Silverthorne Hall. Each race features 8 horses with one winner. Before each race, the audience can buy “betting tickets” for their chosen horse or horses in the upcoming race. Each ticket costs £1.
Is a Race Night Gambling?
No, a race night is not gambling. The horse races are simply a way of choosing a random winning number between 1 and 8. Each horse has the same chance of winning, there is no form and no odds. No one knows which race will be shown when the “bets” are being placed.
How Long Does a Race Night Last?
The whole event will take around 3 hours. The event starts at 7:30pm. The races themselves last only for 2-3 minutes but there is time between each race to place “bets”, get drinks, chat, etc. The evening will be finished by 10:30 / 11 pm.
How Are The Races Shown?
The races are shown on the big screen in Silverthorne Hall. The race to be shown is picked at random from a hat after the “bets” have been placed.
Where Does The Money Go?
Each of the 8 races has a prize pot of £60 shared equally between the winning tickets for that race. The rest of the money goes to the PTFA to support the school.
