About the PTFA

The Bishop Road School Parents, Teachers and Friends Association (PTFA) is a registered UK charity.  We are very fortunate at Bishop Road to have a thriving PTFA that has been an integral part of the school community for many years. All parents and teachers are automatically members of the PTFA and a committee of up to 50 people are elected each year, at the AGM, to run events and manage PTFA business.

Our AGM is held every October and there are a further 3 meetings held throughout the year. We value everyone’s input, support, energy and time, whether you run an event, volunteer for a slot at a fair or even just offer your ideas. So, do look out for meeting dates, come along and join in!

The PTFA’s stated aims are:

  • To support the education of the children via fundraising and other activities
  • To foster more extended relationships between staff, parents and others associated with the school

We raise funds each year to wholly or partially fund various activities or improvements. We do this primarily by running events for the school and/or local community to enjoy. The PTFA is run solely by parent volunteers who donate their time and energy to make these events as enjoyable and successful as possible.

We have put money towards a variety of projects including outdoor learning sessions for all year groups (6 sessions per child each year), the development of our wonderful story garden (an area of previously unused wasteland which is now an imaginative and exciting outdoor classroom), new lighting and sound systems in the main halls, repair of the stage, and regular development and enhancement of the playgrounds. We also fund on an annual basis new books for the library and classrooms, and ‘enrichment’ initiatives including author visits, music sessions, workshops and science sessions.
