About the PTFA

The Bishop Road School Parents, Teachers and Friends Association (PTFA) is a registered UK charity.  We are very fortunate at Bishop Road to have a thriving PTFA that has been an integral part of the school community for many years. All parents and teachers are automatically members of the PTFA and a committee of up to 50 people are elected each year, at the AGM, to run events and manage PTFA business.

Our AGM is held every October and there are a further 6 meetings held throughout the year. We value everyone’s input, support, energy and time, whether you run and event, volunteer for a slot at a fair or even just offer your ideas. So, do look out for meeting dates, come along and join in!

The PTFA’s stated aims are:

  • To support the education of the children via fundraising and other activities
  • To foster more extended relationships between staff, parents and others associated with the school

In the past 5 years, we have put money towards a variety of projects such as new books, radio, sound and lighting equipment, wet play boxes, traversing walls and many enrichment fund activities, some of these activities in the school blog are paid for by the PTFA such as author visits and science and robotics workshops.  The PTFA has also funded bigger projects for the school – the incredible Story Garden, which was an area of previously unused wasteland,  was transformed into an imaginative and exciting outdoor classroom for the children and it is now used very regularly by every class.

The PTFA has just agreed to fund an exciting new project which will create a dedicated music studio large enough for whole classes to use – come along to the next PTFA meeting to find out more about our next project.
